1969 was a big one for Barbra Streisand’s movie career. She starred in the film version of Hello Dolly!.
A bit of trivia about that part…
Barbra didn’t play Dolly Levi on Broadway. That was Carol Channing’s role and she beat Barbra Streisand’s Fanny Brice for the Tony award in 1964. Streisand’s movie wasn’t the first film version of Mrs. Levi, either. Back in 1958, Shirley Booth played Dolly in a non-musical film, The Matchmaker, long before her TV success as “Hazel”! Booth’s co-stars in that film included a very young Shirley MacLaine, Anthony Perkins and Robert Morse who was just learning “How to Succeed In (Show) Business”! He was the only member of the Broadway cast to play his role in the film.
